Answers to the questions we get most
Attending
Who is the workshop for?
People who train law enforcement and tactical professionals, and people who study that training. The room is a deliberate mix: working trainers, tactical practitioners, and training-science researchers, about 60 in total. You do not need to be sworn law enforcement to attend.
How much does it cost, and what does that include?
Attending costs $695, which covers your room at TBarM Resort for three nights (December 3, 4, and 5) and all meals from dinner Thursday through breakfast Sunday. Travel is on you. Selected presenters attend at no cost, with travel covered.
How do I register?
Email Sarah E. Drennan at sd33@txstate.edu with your name, agency or affiliation, and contact information. Seats are limited, so register early. Details are on the attend page.
How do I get to TBarM?
TBarM Resort is in New Braunfels, Texas, between San Antonio and Austin. San Antonio International (SAT) and Austin-Bergstrom (AUS) are both within about an hour’s drive; rent a car or use rideshare from either. Everything during the workshop, including sessions, meals, and lodging, is on site, so you will not need a car once you arrive.
What should I bring?
Sessions are hands-on, and most include an active participant role. Bring clothes you can move in. Early December in the Hill Country is usually mild, but pack a layer for cool mornings.
Is there live fire?
No. TBarM has no live-fire range. Demonstrations use sims, scenarios, and mat work.
Presenting
How do I get a presentation slot?
Through the annual call for presentations, usually posted in the spring with proposals due in early June. The present page has the full requirements and a copy of the most recent call. Selected presenters have their conference fee, room, board, and travel covered.
Can I bring a co-presenter?
Yes. One presenter per session is covered by the workshop; co-presenters are welcome at their own cost.
Do I have to subscribe to a particular training philosophy?
No. No particular theoretical school is required. What matters is that you can show your method live and explain why you do it that way.
Materials
Where do slides, white papers, and readings live?
On the resources page. Presenters who want the room to keep their materials email them to sd33@txstate.edu and they get posted there.
Will photos from the workshop be available?
Yes, on the photos page after the workshop. If you have shots from past years, send them in.
